Learning English language by songs is one of the ways that teenagers prefer using in recent years. Listening to and analyzing songs, they are simultaneously engaged in:

* learning new vocabulary;

* the perception of speech by ear;

* improving pronunciation;

* familiarity with the cultural features of the country.

The big advantage of this method is that it is available almost anywhere: at home, in transport, on a walk, etc. Downloading a song and its lyrics to any device is easy!

Also, learning English by songs is useful to facilitate the understanding of the grammar being studied. Memorizing rhymed lines of lyrics , we automatically store standard speech turns in memory. As a result, in the "live" conversation they pop up in memory and our speech becomes more literate and stylistically diverse.

The aim of the work is to identify the most common deviations from the norm in the lyrics of modern songs in English.

In accordance with the aim, we highlight the following tasks:

1. To study the concept of "norm".

2. Learn songs in English.

3. Find examples of deviations from the norm.

Object of research: English language

Subject of the study: songs in English

Hypothesis: There are a number of errors in modern English songs that can harm students of classical English.

Practical significance of the research: the data on the research work can be used in lessons on practical and theoretical grammar in schools, and will also be of interest to those who are interested in learning English on their own. This work was presented at English lessons in school, as well as at a scientific and practical conference.

The methods of research work are:

- methods of theoretical research (synthesis, study and generalization)

- method of critical analysis of scientific sources,

- comparative method.

Grammatical norms

A good song helps not only to relax and have fun, but also supports interest in learning English. However, modern songs do not have the best effect on the perception of linguistic norms of the language, as they often contain slang expressions, violation of grammatical norms and even profanity.

It is believed that the "wrong language" is more characteristic of spoken American English. Many people don't like rap precisely because of the gross wrong language. But recently there has been a dangerous trend towards illiterate writing of lyrics in other, more popular types of music.

A grammatical norm is a set of grammatical rules and practices aimed at directing and regulating the speech activity of speakers of a given language.

Violation of the grammatical norm, as the rules for the use of morphological forms of different parts of speech and syntactic constructions, leads to incorrect word and form usage.

Consider the deviations from the norm that occur in modern English-language songs.

Abbreviations in writing and in speech

Great simplifications of the text of modern songs occur in terms of their

spelling, which later led to their incorrect pronunciation (many such examples have become so much part of public life that they do not belong to spelling inconsistencies, unlike the correct spelling of the word, as it is indicated in the dictionary, but belong at the moment to the youth slang of English-speaking residents). Non-standard spelling is used to reflect the sound of some phrases in colloquial speech and writing, especially in song lyrics.

Abbreviations of English words and expressions:

1. ain't = am not/are not/is not

A ubiquitous, colloquial abbreviation that has several English meanings Translation of ain't: not- нет

The origin of ain't: the abbreviation is formed from the negative form of the verb to be - am not, is not, are not; also, ain't can replace the phrases have not / has not in the meaning of "have" and in Perfect tenses.

2. gimme = give me.

The origin of gimme: formed by the abbreviation of the phrase give me [giv miː] - give me - даймне

3. trynna= trying to

Translation: try - пытаться

Origin of trynna: formed by the abbreviation of trying to

4.Gonna= going to

Translation:собираться

Origin of gonna: formed by the abbreviation of going to – собираться

5.wanna = want to

Translation wanna: хотеть

Origin of wanna: formed by the abbreviation of want to [ˈwɒnə] – хотеть

Skipping endings in words

The last sounds in some words seem to be swallowed, which is also characteristic of colloquial speech. An apostrophe (') is placed on the letter instead of the missing letters.

Violation of grammatical norms

1. Double negation

Everyone knows that in English only one negative in a negative sentence is allowed, but double negatives are often used in songs, which is a gross mistake. In songs it is usually used for amplification.

2. Omission of the predicate or its part

- Heart racing, mind stalling,

Behaviour appalling,

3.Incorrect use of pronouns

4. Use the wrong part of speech

5. Using the wrong verb tense

I called an old friend thinking that the trouble would wait

But then I jump right in

Conclusion

In accordance with the set goals and tasks, the theoretical material was studied for the presence of abbreviations and grammatical errors, the lyrics of modern songs were analyzed.

After analyzing the song lyrics, we came to the conclusion that modern songs are a source of various kinds of errors. The most common grammatical errors include the following: double negation, incorrect use of the verb form to be, specific forms of verbs, etc.

Summing up our research, we can clearly assess the benefits of using songs as a resource for learning foreign languages. As we found out, this method has a lot of pros and cons that need to be taken into account when using it, and if you take into account all the subtleties, then you will get the maximum benefit for pumping the language.
