Introduction.
All the children are looking forward to the coming of New Year and Christmas. In New Year’s Eve magic is coming – Father Frost (Santa Claus) brings a lot of gifts and presents! Within the year children aretrying to behave in a good way, they help their parents and grandparents and do the right things. They do it because they hope to get the most important present of the year! Families havetheir own traditions how to spend New Year’s night and how to treat Father Frost: somebody hangs stockings, somebody gives candies…It’s up to you! But everybody waits for this wonderful night.
Relevance.
I’ve taken a poll to see what pupils think about New Year. I counted the number of pupils who raised their hands. There were 30 pupils in the class. The questions were:
- Who believes in the existence of Father Frost? (30 pupils raised their hands)
- Who will writea letter to Father Frost?(30 pupils raised their hands)
-Who thinks that Father Frost is the same person as Santa Claus?(5 pupils raised their hands)
-Who will write a letter to Santa Claus? (only one person raised his hand and it wasme)
To sum up, all my classmates believe in Father Frost and they will write letters to him, 5 people believe in Santa Claus but I am the only person who will write a letter to him. All the year I’ve studied English with my teachers and now I can write the letter myself. Certainly, I will try to tell Santa about my city and my school.
Purpose: to write a letter to Santa Claus.
Targets:
-learning English using dictionaries, textbooks andaudio.
-writing of the detailed letter to Santa Claus.

Dear Santa! Merry Christmas! My name is Vsevolod. My surname is Zvezdochkin. Finally I can write a letter to you in English! I am happy to do it! It is my dream… Now I want to tell you about myself with great pleasure. I have got a big family. I have got a mother, her name is Olga. I have got a father, his name is Andrei and I have got a little brother Gleb. My brother and I like to play lego and read books. My little brother doesn’t go to school.We have got a cat, its name is Misty, three tortoises and a snail! We like to play with our cat at home! How I love them all!
Do you know where I am from? I am from Russia! I live in a very nice city, its name is Kaluga and it is very long away from the North Pole. Kaluga is famous all over the world, it is a space city – many years ago Konstantin Tsiolkivsky lived here. Everybody knows him because he is the greatest rocket scientist! I know about him a lot!
Every day I go to school where I write, read, count and sing songs! I get only good marks and my mother is proud of me! My favourite subject is English. I want to have a pen friend from England! We can make friends! I will would tell him about Russian and he would tell me about English!
I always help my mother about the house. I do dusting, wash up, mop the floor and sometimes I go shopping. Most of all I like shopping! My mother often buys sweets to me. I am a sweet-tooth! I like New Year because I can eat sweets a lot!
Every year we decorate our Christmas tree with beautiful lights, toys and balls! I always help my mother to put a star on the top of the tree. It is magic! My mother makes me a New Year’s costume. I like to be a Ninja! My friend likes to be a Lego-man. He likes Lego very much. We also have a very funny tradition. In the evening we go to make a snowman – we use carrot for its nose, branches for arms and a big old bucket for a hat! It’s fun! Is it snowing in your city? Now we have got little snow…
In my class we learn New Year’s poems by heart. This Year I have decided to learn English poem. It is difficult but very interesting! Here it is:
I’m wishing you here a "Happy New Year!"
Don’t try to give up, take a full coffee cup,
Forget about troubles, then happiness doubles.
Enjoy all small talks with friends and your folks.
Look at the snow and forgive your worst foe.
In this joyful night, when stars shine so bright,
I’m wishing you happiness, sweetness and light.
Thank you for all the presents last year. They were all really nice, and I played with all of them a lot!
I have tried to be a good boyall the year and I hope that you and your reindeers will be able to deliver me a nice present. I want Lego and Snowman Robot! But most of all I want my family to be healthy and wealthy!
I know that you and your helpers must be very busy at the moment but I hope that you will also have time to deliver some nice gifts for my family and me.
Please say hello to everyone at the North Pole. I am excited to see what is under the tree this year.

Conclusion.
For New Year’s miracle you need to do right things, obey our parents but the first thing you should do is to do well at school and get good marks. Especially studying English thoroughly you have a chance to write a letter to Santa and ask some presents.My classmates will write letters as well but they are going to write to Father Frost. Next year they probably will learn English better and write to Santa too. But now I am the only one who is ready to do this! I hope Santa will like my letter!
